Last Wednesday Apple's Macintosh turned 30 years old, oh how far we have come. Boasting a 9 inch screen, a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive, a 32-bit Motorola processor, 128 KB of RAM and a 400 KB drive it truly was a powerhouse 30 years ago. Just look at her, in all of her beige glory, truly breathtaking.

Google and Samsung made big waves on Sunday in the incredibly competitive mobile industry.  In an industry dominated by patent litigation Google and Samsung announced that they have entered into a ten-year cross-licensing agreement involving their respective patent portfolios.

If one thing holds true for technology it's that it is always changing, evolving, and what is the latest and greatest today will be obsolete in 2 years time. Now if you really want a sense of nostalgia you can break out your collection of floppy disks and try to explain to anyone under 25 what they were used for.

Intel announced that it is expecting a decline in its workforce this year due to their 4th quarter earnings report. The world’s largest chip manufacturer said Thursday that it saw signs that the PC market was stabilizing, they announced that 4th quarter profit was up 6 percent year over year, to $2.6 billion, while revenue increased 3 percent to $13.8 billion.

The wall street journal is reporting that Dropbox has raised about $250 million at a valuation of close to $10 billion. This isn't surprising given the insane valuations of startups like Snapchat. Dropbox does have millions of users however, and the man power to move the company beyond syncing and storing data.

A recent international ranking placing the United States 35th in bandwidth has generated anotherround of commentary about how our broadband offerings compare to others. Unmentioned was that a year earlier, the then FCC Chairman gave a speech advocating the need for much faster, gigabit broadband networks throughout the United States.
