On April, 23rd 2005 a brief 18 second video was uploaded to a video hosting site called YouTube. If you had to guess I'm sure you would say that this must be promotional launch video or a brief advertisement for the soon to be multimedia behemoth, but you would be wrong.

Our lives may seem like they revolve around our mobile devices, and if we're being honest they really do. But isn't that the way it has always been? 20 years ago it was the pager, and then the cell phone, now the smart phone. Lets face it we are hopelessly in love with technology, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Ah yes the educational movie during class, there truly was no better feeling than walking into a classroom and seeing one of these sitting there. Just knowing that for the next 45 minutes you could sit and relax would instantly brighten your day. Who knows, maybe one day during a staff meeting the boss will roll in one of these and you will be able to experience that feeling once more.

This week Google's Gmail turned 10 years old. Email has come a long way in its long lifetime but no provider has made as much of an impact as Google. With over 500 million users Gmail is the largest email service and has become a part of our daily lives.

Ohhhh yes welcome to Throwback Thursday. Now I realize that you can still purchase a disposable camera in most Wal-marts but I don't think I've seen anyone use one in the last 5 years. Back in the day though, these trusty little companions were essential for any trip.

When you look back on it what downsides were there to VHS? Exactly, none. They didn't scratch, they didn't have annoying menus, no bonus material because, lets be honest who wants to hear where Tom Cruise got his inspiration from anyways.

Sure rewinding took a while, but that gave you time to make some popcorn.

Oh humble beginnings, the days of VCR, tape and floppy are behind us but lets not forget where we came from. Without these, admittedly terrible pieces of technology we would not be where we are today.  Michael Eisner once said "There's no good idea that cannot be improved on.

We have truly come a long way in developing the capabilities of our technology, the past few decades have seen some incredible innovation. But we have dropped the ball my friends, we don't show off how incredible and sexy all of this innovation is nearly enough.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all of the social media that surrounds us? Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest the list goes on and on, and it seems like a new company adds to it every year. Now we seem to be in an inescapable whirlwind of status updates, likes, re-tweets and notifications.

Last Wednesday Apple's Macintosh turned 30 years old, oh how far we have come. Boasting a 9 inch screen, a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive, a 32-bit Motorola processor, 128 KB of RAM and a 400 KB drive it truly was a powerhouse 30 years ago. Just look at her, in all of her beige glory, truly breathtaking.
